Donate
So that we may acknowledge your generosity, please read the policy linked below and complete the Donation Form when making a donation.
The Library no longer accepts books, audiobooks, CDs or DVDs.
Monetary Donations
For tax purposes, the Library will provide donors with a receipt indicating the dollar amount of the donation.
For donations made with a stipulation that it be spent on materials, the donor may:
- Request the materials be adult and/or children
- Request the materials be on a subject area broad enough to maintain the balance of the collection.
- Make suggestions concerning the format of the materials, but may not stipulate specific books(s) to be purchased.
- Request the Library send an acknowledgement of the gift to a given name and address.
Niles District Library Endowment Fund
The Niles District Library Endowment Fund, established in 2011, provides a permanent endowment to ensure that the library’s work continues for generations to come.
Carefully managed under the auspices of the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation, the NDL Endowment Fund will be maintained in perpetuity, drawing solely on interest from the Fund’s assets.
Organizations, individuals or businesses may contribute outright gifts as part of their annual tax planning. Due to financial regulations, donations to the Niles District Library Endowment must be made directly to the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation.
Individuals may also create a lasting memorial that will impact generations to come by making a bequest in your will or trust that directs specific assets or a percentage of your estate to the library’s Endowment Fund. Your estate planner can help you draft a will that will benefit the Library.
If you have questions, contact the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation at (269) 695-3521.
Designate The Library For Memorial Contributions
The Library greatly appreciates families who think of the Library as they mourn the loss of a loved one. Many people ask their friends and family to make a donation to the Library in lieu of flowers. In recognition, the Library sends each donor a note of thanks and also notifies a designated family member of each donation made in honor of their loved one.
For memorials exceeding $150, a Christmas ornament with the deceased’s name will be displayed on a special tree at the Library during the holiday season.
Establishing a memorial is easy. While we are happy to help, you don’t need to contact the Library. Simply let your family and friends know of your wishes. Most people include a suggestion for donations to the Library in the obituary. Make checks payable to Niles District Library and complete a Gift and Donations Form.
Friends of Niles District Library & Niles History Center
As a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, The Friends raise funds to support the shared goals of Niles District Library and Niles History Center. Membership dues make up a significant portion of the Friends proceeds each year.
A basic membership of $15 annually provides access to exclusive events for Friends during the year. The Friends also accept cash donations.
Book Sales
Friends of the Niles District Library no longer have set book sale dates and times. The Friends currently have a book sale cart located next to the Checkout Desk. All proceeds from the book cart sales go back to the Friends.
