Niles District Library is governed by an eight-member Board of Trustees; trustees serve four-year terms without compensation. The City of Niles Council and the Niles Charter Township Board each appoint four board members who must be registered and qualified to vote in the Library district. Persons meeting these qualifications may apply for consideration for membership by completing a Board Membership Application.

The Library Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. in the library’s Board Room.

The meetings of the Board of Trustees are subject to the provisions of the Open Meetings Act, which provides for regulated public participation.
The Library operates under the premise that patrons are our highest priority. Every contact with a patron will be characterized by fairness, courtesy, and efficiency, and will serve to confirm to our community that we value their patronage.

The mission of the Niles District Library is to provide our community with access and guidance to resources that inform, entertain and enrich. As we plan for the future, we intend to capitalize on the unique value we bring to our community.
 
 
Officers are elected at the October annual meeting. Committees are appointed at the October annual meeting. (Membership runs through Dec. 31 of the year noted.)
