Let’s talk about books!
Tween Book Club meets every 2nd Monday @ 6 pm in Patti’s Place
Tween Book Club at NDL is a free choice book discussion. Meet Ms. Tara in Patti’s Place to chat about books. It can be the latest book you’ve read, your favorite book of all time, or even a book you absolutely hated.
Ms. Tara will read a different book, geared towards tweens, to discuss each month. If you would like to read the same book, we’ll have copies available to pick up.
Upcoming Librarian Picks:
November 11 | Everything on a Waffle by Polly Horvath
Book Description: In a quaint restaurant called The Girl on the Red Swing, everything comes on a waffle–lasagna, fish, you name it. Even waffles! Eleven-year-old Primrose Squarp loves this homey place, especially its owner, Kate Bowzer, who takes her under her wing, teaches her how to cook, and doesn’t patronize or chastise her, even when she puts her guinea pig too close to the oven and it catches fire. Primrose’s parents were lost at sea, and everyone but her thinks they are dead. Her Uncle Jack, who kindly takes her in, is perfectly nice, but doesn’t have much time on his hands. As Primrose adapts to the small Canadian town of Coal Harbour, her new community also has to adapt to her.
December 9 | My Life As a Potato by Arianna Costner
Book Description: Ben Hardy believes he’s cursed by potatoes. And now he’s moved to Idaho, where the school’s mascot is Steve the Spud! Yeah, this cannot be good.
After accidentally causing the mascot to sprain an ankle, Ben is sentenced to Spud duty for the final basketball games of the year. But if the other kids know he’s the Spud, his plans for popularity are likely to be a big dud! Ben doesn’t want to let the team down, so he lies to his friends to keep it a secret. No one will know it’s him under the potato suit . . . right?
January 13 | Bliss by Kathryn Littlewood
Book Description: Rosemary Bliss’s family has a secret. It’s the Bliss Cookery Booke—an ancient, leather-bound volume of enchanted recipes. Rose and her siblings are supposed to keep the Cookery Booke under lock and whisk-shaped key while their parents are out of town, but then a mysterious stranger shows up. “Aunt” Lily rides a motorcycle, wears purple sequins, and whips up exotic (but delicious) dishes for dinner. Soon boring, non-magical recipes feel like life before Aunt Lily—a lot less fun.
So Rose and her siblings experiment with just a couple of recipes from the forbidden Cookery Booke. A few Love Muffins and a few dozen Cookies of Truth couldn’t cause too much trouble . . . could they?
